How to clear Echo Lake Lumber? ›

Head to Echo Lake Lumber, which is currently overrun by a horde of Ghouls hiding among the ruins of the lumber yard. Be sure to carefully clear out every building, including the main house with multiple floors, and a Glowing One guarding a large chest in the ruined attic.

This location can only be turned into a settlement once the Turn Back the Fog quest is completed. Contains a large department store building that can be built within for a settlement.

Echo Lake Lumber is one of the larger settlements in the game. The main building features a working terminal on the second floor and the workshop against the southern corner of the outer wall.

Once they are dead, talk to Uncle Ken again. With some difficult charisma checks he can be persuaded to go to Far Harbor; doing so will result in him being present when returning to Mitch and will change the dialogue slightly, but provide no additional rewards. Through dialogue, the player character will help Bertha to convince Avery to provide fog condensers to make Echo Lake Lumber habitable. This completes the quest and a few settlers will be at the lumber mill next time the player character arrives and access will be granted to the workshop there.

Locations. There are 37 unlockable settlements total, with 30 in the base game, one in Automatron, four in Far Harbor, one in Vault-Tec Workshop and one in Nuka-World. Most are obtained by completing an objective or killing hostiles/residents in the area then opening the workshop.
